Is Travel Insurance Worth It?

With summer on the horizon, it's only fitting to discuss a debated topic: Travel Insurance. Whether planning an extended international vacation or a quick getaway, it's wise to consider coverage. Travel Insurance is intended to cover medical expenses, trip cancellation, lost luggage, flight accidents and other losses incurred while traveling, either internationally or within one's own country.

Since each individual’s needs are different, the best insurance option is not always a one-size fits all approach. But comparing policies can help a traveler decide which policy is the best and most appropriate.

Travel insurance can usually be arranged at the time of the booking of a trip to cover exactly the duration of that trip, or a "multi-trip" policy can cover an unlimited number of trips within a set time frame. Some policies offer lower and higher medical-expense options; the higher ones are chiefly for countries that have extremely high medical costs. Medical Expenses coverage can be Per Occurrence or Maximum Limit.

Several private organizations will provide medical information and insurance for overseas travelers.  Listed below are a few companies we recommend.
